How to Wear Dresses in the Winter

Think the cold weather precludes you from wearing cold weather clothes? Think again!

Cold weather can mean that wearing a dress is almost nearly impossible. However, you can ensure that you can stay fancy, and warm and dry, despite your proclivity for dresses with a few fashion tips. Winter doesn’t mean you have to give up your dresses for good, especially since they are so easy to wear and help you hide that winter weight!

1. Layer Up

If you live in an extremely cold climate, you can still get away with a dress (mostly) if you layer up. In some cases, this may not be possible, especially if the temperature dips really low. But if you’re outside for a minimal amount of time and the weather isn’t too crazy, you can layer up on top to keep it balanced on your legs. Make sure you do wear tights, however, as bare legs is a definite no-no unless you’re somewhere really warm!

2. Wear Temporary Layers

Wear layers you can take off as soon as you arrive at your destination. If it’s really cold out, put on your tights and then a pair of warm pants over them before putting on your shoes. This will help with your commute, especially if you have to walk somewhere. When you get there, remove your warm pants and you’re good to go for the day. Make sure you have a place to store them such as a big bag or a place at your desk or in a work locker.

3. Wear Tights with Lining

In some stores, like Primark, you can find tights with a faux fur lining. This is perfect for weather on the chillier side and can keep your legs from getting too cold if you’re sitting in an office all day that is a bit stingy on the heat.

4. Pair with Warm Boots

A nice looking dress with a pair of tights and warm boots is definitely a winning combo. Although flats may look good with a dress and tights, avoid wearing them outside and instead go with a nice pair of black or brown boots. If you really want to wear flats, try bringing them in your bag and wearing boots to work or your destination and changing once you get there.
