Tyler Baltierra went on Twitter this week responding to reports by OK Magazine and People that his father returns to rehab this year to deal with his on going substance abuse issues. A clip of this week’s new Teen Mom OG episode was released and in it, some shocking details about Tyler’s relationship with his father, Butch.
In the preview, Tyler is seen speaking with his wife Catelynn Lowell and MTV producers about several renovations the couple wanted to make on their house. He said, “You know my dad will definitely build a pasture fence…”he destroyed my childhood … I need a fence, that’s all I’m asking him now.” Tyler also told Catelynn he needed to talk to Butch about going back to rehab.
Catelynn then reminded Tyler that he had said before that he wanted to wait to speak to his father until he was less angry. Tyler’s response is a bit heartbreaking.
Tyler said, “I think I’ve just come to the conclusion that I’m always going to feel angry about it, because there was a time when I was younger, like, I used to like calling him a ‘crack head.’ I liked seeing him get angry about it.”
Catelynn let Tyler know that as they are both children of addictive parents, that they both have a right to be angry. Their childhoods were made difficult because of their parents actions. Tyler remarked that he was happy he and his wife hadn’t fall into the same trap and had broken the cycle of addiction themselves. “I think from us two, as kids, stability was something that we wanted growing up,” said Tyler.
Tyler tweeted out this week in response to the OK Magazine article, “As a child of an addict, I don’t think I’ll ever NOT be angry with him. But that doesn’t mean I can’t love him unconditionally.”
It’s good to see Tyler and Catelynn moving past the actions of their parents and trying to be better role models for their daughter Novalee. Catch Teen Mom OG on Monday Nights on MTV at 9/8c.
