The Duggar family is not immune to controversy, and it seems that it may have just caught up to them.
The mega-family has appeared on TLC since their original docu-series, 14 Kids and Pregnant Again! In 2015, a sexual abuse scandal kicked their hit 19 Kids and Counting off the air after sponsors declined to continue supporting the Duggar family, but they didn’t stay down for long. Instead, they were granted with a spin-off called Counting On, which focused on the lives of the older girls in the family as they wed and had children of their own.
Counting On has enjoyed six seasons thus far, and the last season wrapped up with Joe Duggar marrying his sweetheart, Kendra Caldwell Duggar. Much of the season, however, focused on Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth marrying her sweetheart Austin Forsyth and the wedding that was mysteriously moved up by five months.
Typically the Duggar family announces that the show will return at a certain time during the year during their season finale, but this time, there hasn’t been any new information on whether or not Counting On will be back for a seventh installment.
According to a close family friend of the Duggars, the family themselves don’t even know if the show will be returning to air, which has many fans concerned. In fact, The Hollywood Gossip stated that the network might actually be ghosting the family.
Recently, the show has been embroiled in controversy since Jill Duggar Dillard’s husband, Derick Dillard, has taken to roasting fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings on his social media accounts. Due to Derick’s Christian beliefs, he thinks Jazz’s show I Am Jazz shouldn’t be on the air, and has repeatedly misgendered her and said being transgender is a myth.
His repeated Jazz-bashing has gotten him fired from the TV show, as TLC let fans know they have cut ties with him after lots of complaints. But does that mean his bigoted views cut the cord on the show as well?
The Duggar family recently issued a statement, saying, “We have been in contact with TLC but at this time, there are no announcements to share.”
It doesn’t seem the outlook looks good for Duggar fans.
